Nashville is a city full of rich history from its early beginnings. Those thinking of visiting or moving to Nashville will appreciate the cities commitment to honor our Veterans. The city, along with all other cities in the US will be celebrating Veterans Day this month and there are many ways that the city will show its appreciation.
It was President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 who proclaimed Veterans Day observation. It was originally known as Armistice Day and became a legal federal holiday in 1938. Due to President Eisenhower, it became known as Veterans Day so that, “a grateful Nation might pay appropriate homage to the Veterans of all its wars who have contributed so much to the preservation of this Nation”. At our Nations capital, the Veterans Day National Ceremony is held at Arlington National Cemetery. The color guard, made up of members from each of the military services, pays tribute to America’s war dead during a tradition-rich ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns inside the Memorial Amphitheater. The Veterans Day National Committee also selects a number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances throughout the country. From stirring parades and ceremonies to military exhibits and tributes to distinguished veterans, these events serve as models for other communities to follow in planning their own observances. Nashville is one of these regions selected as an example.
One annual event is the Nashville Veterans Day Parade. It began as a local city parade and grew to larger crowds from neighboring communities. Although there are many other events throughout the community, the Veterans Day Parade is the main event. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. in remembrance of the timing of the treaty that ended World War 1. Lipscomb University’s alumni veterans will be marching and marks the first time in recent history that an area university has featured its veterans in the event. It’s a colorful and musical event that friends and family that will tug at your heartstrings.
In honor of our Veterans, several attractions in Nashville have extended discounts. . Some restaurant chains conducting food giveaways to veterans and active duty personnel are Applebee’s, Outback Steakhouse and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Applebee’s is offering select signature entrees for free! The Country Music Hall of Fame is giving military personnel with valid ID will $2 off general admission tickets. The Grand Ole Opry November 11 is Veterans Day, and America Supports You is celebrating the commitment and sacrifice our Veterans have shown with special shows that include performances by Darryl Worley, John Anderson, Rodney Atkins, and more. Also, Lowe’s and Home Depot Lowe’s typically have offered a 10% to veterans and active duty.
It’s important to Nashville to show it’s appreciation to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. Veterans Day is a day to come and show respect and support for those who have fought, died, been captured or are missing in action in the cause of peace and freedom.
Enjoying your Leisure Time

Too often when we choose a location for a new home, we choose a home that is conveniently located relative to our place of employment. We worry about adding a few extra minutes to the commute each day, and forget about its proximity to leisure time activities. We should think more about choosing a home that helps us spend more time doing the things we love to do.
Those who enjoy fishing or boating should consider a home on the water. Skiers might think about buying a home on or near a mountain with ski trails. Golf is one of our nation’s most popular outdoor activities. Those who enjoy the game have the option of choosing a home on or adjacent to a golf course.
In some parts of the country this can be difficult and may only be of benefit during a part of the year. No matter how much you enjoy the game, golfing in subzero temperatures is not fun, and golfing in the snow is all but impossible. In other parts of the country, it is not only possible, but easy to golf all year round if you live next to a golf course. Southern California, Orange County in particular, is one of those locations where the weather supports getting outside even in the dead of winter.
Orange County, California has many top quality golf courses and, therefore, a good inventory of golf course homes available. While many of these golf course homes are luxury homes, there is also a good selection of more affordable houses with direct access to Orange County’s golf courses as well, with prices comparable to houses of similar quality that don’t have the additional benefit of being adjacent to the course.
If you love the game of golf, choose a home that lets you spend more time golfing; it’s that simple. To find a golf course home, you can go to any area realtor, some of the homes they show you might be golf course homes, and then they’ll also try to push homes in other locations. Perhaps homes that are near the end of their listing contract for which they are in danger of losing the sale commission. On the other hand, you can look for a real estate professional who specializes in golf course homes. These specialty realtors generally choose to work with golf course homes because they also love to be out on the course. As you consider a golf course home, make sure you try out the course first. A good golf course home realtor will set you up for a round to make sure you’re going to enjoy the course should you purchase a home there.
Whichever realtor you choose, and whatever activities you choose for your leisure time, consider whether your next home purchase is going to facilitate your spending more time doing the things you love to do.

From Scottsdale, Arizona, there are almost too many natural wonders to name within driving distance. The Sonoran Desert, the Petrified Forest, and, of course, the Grand Canyon are among the most well known. The Grand Canyon is one of the greatest natural wonders in the entire world and it just happens to be located in Scottsdale’s back yard.
The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited natural tourist destinations in the United States drawing millions of visitors each year. Residents of Scottsdale, Arizona, however, are only a four hour drive from the South Rim of the Canyon where the waters of the Colorado River spent more than six million years digging their way an average of 4000 feet deep into the desert ground. Photographers, naturalists, hikers, white-water enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys being in the great outdoors could not ask for a better base of operations than Scottsdale from which to pursue their hobbies.
One of the lesser known attractions within driving distance of Scottsdale is the Kartchner Caverns State Park. Although these caves are estimated to be tens of thousands of years old, they were discovered only in 1974 and were purposefully kept secret from the public until 1988. Because of their recent discovery, these breath-taking caverns are in nearly perfect condition with none of the damage caused by heavy traffic that most other large cavern complexes have experienced. The Kartchner Caverns offer awe-inspiring geological formations unlike any other in the world. The youth of this state park combined with its proximity to the Grand Canyon keep its miles of tunnels off the beaten path for most tourists, leaving it relatively uncrowded for those who live near enough to visit at their leisure.
While many Americans are familiar with the majestic red buttes of Monument Valley, on the northern border of Arizona, from the movies, the true grandeur of these 1000 foot tall vertical towers can only be realized by standing among them. The area is a Navajo Nation Tribal Park, but is open to tourists, with the exception of Mystery Valley and Hunt’s Mesa which can be visited only as part of a guided tour. The park offers hiking, horseback riding, and a 17 mile long roadway for those who want to drive through and see as much of the park as possible.
While most areas of the United States offer some local attraction, few can boast either as many natural attractions, or any at all of the scale and grandeur of those available as day trips to the residents of Scottsdale, Arizona. Scottsdale is also one of those regions of the country that boasts good weather for the entire year making it an almost perfect place to live for those who do most of their living outdoors.
Corporate Management Programs

American companies are increasing trying to promote from within. Offering internal candidates the opportunity to grow into a senior management position within the company provides additional incentive throughout the company’s workforce, and helps to ensure that the people filling those senior management positions enter those jobs already strongly versed in the corporate culture and values. It reduces the learning curve as well, since the internal candidates will already know the organization and have contacts throughout the company.
Some companies take this concept one step further and offer management grooming programs. These programs aim to ensure that there will be a suitable field of internal candidates available when these senior positions become available. These programs often have an initial screening process that selects employees with a certain base level of experience and education. From there the candidates participate in internal education programs and may even be encouraged to seek additional college level education, if necessary.
On the job training also plays a critical role in the grooming process. Often those enrolled in these internal development programs will spend a year or two in a rotating assignment program designed to make sure that each candidate has a thorough understanding and appreciation of all aspects of the company’s business. That might mean spending six months in a middle management position at one of the company’s factories, six months in field sales, six months at the corporate headquarters, and so on until every major part of the corporation has been experienced directly.
Often these temporary assignments are located in different parts of the country, or even outside of the United States. Because of the intermediate duration of each assignment, these employees are often provided with corporate housing. Because the employees are expected to be fully engaged in learning their roles in each new division, the use of fully furnished corporate lodging removes the distraction of frequent apartment shopping, moving complications, arranging for utilities, and all the other major and minor details usually associated with employment relocation.
These intensive executive grooming programs are designed to provide superior candidates for senior management positions within the corporation. Even the best of candidates hired from outside the company’s existing workforce would need to take time to learn the corporate structure, key stakeholders throughout the company, and the various divisions and operations centers within the company. By training a pool of exceptional internal candidates in advance, they can hit the ground running with all of the required knowledge of corporate infrastructure already in place.
Internal candidates may also command stronger loyalty from other company employees because they have already established strong working relationships around the company, enhanced by the rotational assignments at various geographical locations. Candidates who make it through the initial screening process and then excel as they work their way through the program are better able to smooth out the transition process between managers.
